Rev. Raymond
Lawrence Waddell was born on July 8th, 1932 in Hart County Kentucky, and
departed this life on October 6th, 2000 at Caritas Medical Center in
Louisville Kentucky.
He was 68
years, 2 months, and 28 days old. He was preceded in death by his father;
Otto Henry Waddell, his mother; the former Lizzie Ann Logsdon; and a
sister; Jessie Evelyn Bacon.
He is survived
by his wife of over 42 years; the former Nellie Faye Davidson, two sons;
Donnie Ray and Darrell Gordon Waddell, a daughter-in-law; Starla Rae
Waddell, a grandson; Jarrett Austin Waddell, a sister; Opal Caswell, a
brother; Otto Waddell, Jr., a brother-in-law; Ted Bacon, several nieces
and nephews, and a host of friends and neighbors who will miss him deeply.
Brother Ray
served his Country in the Army during the Korean war, was a retired
employee of Container Corporation of America, and was a member of the
Kentucky Colonels. Brother Ray professed faith in Christ in 1960 and
joined 22nd Street United Baptist Church, which was later relocated and
renamed Campbell's Chapel United Baptist Church where he remained a member
until his death.
After feeling
and announcing God calling him to preach His Gospel, he was licensed to
preach and on May 19th, 1963 was ordained a United Baptist Minister. He
pastored two churches during his life; Campbell's Chapel and Owensboro
First United Baptist Church. He also preached in several churches
elsewhere in Kentucky, Indiana and Tennessee where many lost souls were
saved. He also loved to hear the other men of God preach the Gospel of
peace.
Although he
was burdened with poor health the majority of his Christian life, Brother
Ray never lost his faith and always held fast to the unchanging hand of
God.
He will always
be remembered as a good husband, father, grandfather, neighbor and friend.
Dad now sleeps until judgment day, when he
will hear these words; Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter
thou
into the joy of thy Lord.
